Choosing Your Immigration Pathway

Choosing Your Immigration Pathway

Canada offers several routes to permanent residence. The most common are Express Entry (Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades), Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), study permits with post-graduation work permits, and family sponsorship.

Express Entry is a points-based system (CRS) that ranks candidates on age, education, language scores, and work experience. Draws happen roughly every two weeks.

Each province runs its own streams targeting in-demand occupations. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points — effectively a guaranteed invitation.

A Canadian study permit plus a PGWP can convert to PR via Canadian Experience Class. It is slower but lower-risk for candidates with weak CRS scores.

Action step: calculate your CRS score on the IRCC site before choosing a pathway.
